In my last blog I have written about the strength of Habitat School with respect to the ability of the competent faculties. But today the Habitat School is in great crisis. I generally like all the faculty of any institute. But I prefer to rank them according to my likings. My liking has many parameters. Any faculty who fulfill my maximum liking parameter I rank them at the top most level of the hierarchy. Some parameters are worth mentioning. Some of these are qualification, teaching standard, dedication towards the school and ability to handle the school etc. I have been fascinated to join Habitat School for the love of society, social sciences, and the dean of my School. While going through the Habitat School Brochure I came across a name beside which the qualification is mentioned. The qualifications start with B-Tech from IIT and PhD from Delaware. IIT and good foreign University always fascinate me. Being from an economically poor background and inability to get IIT-JEE, these institutes always remain a dream in me. To learn under the guidance of a well qualified teacher always thrills me. This promptly made me to fill up the form for the TISS National Entrance Exam. Fortunately I cleared the exam, GD/PI and was admitted to the school whose Dean is the person who encouraged me to apply for the course indirectly. (I mentioned indirectly because before the admission to the school I never had any conversation with the person. But his qualification encouraged me). I can contribute to the society by being a technical person also. To some extent I can learn social science myself by doing some study. But to be guided by a faculty of such caliber is interesting.
Today this person is in crisis. He needs our love and blessings. He needs our prayers. He is suffering from heart ailment and advised to go for Bypass Surgery. Some of my Doctor friends explained me about surgery. They also told me about the indicator, process, reasons, prognosis, process and the complications. Although the success rate of this surgery is very high but the chances of complication become higher at the later stage of operations. The information given by my friend really moves me to check some of the article related to this costly and dangerous surgery over the internet and the available sources. I found two articles on net which I feel would be useful enough to share with my friends.

After going through these materials I found myself that I should be cautious with my standard of living and the food habit. As almost all the diseases in this world are related to the environmental conditional. I became very much aware of the importance of protecting the environment. Healthy, efficient, enviromental friendly and pro poor policies are utmost important. To raise my standard of living and the food habit I have to be self sufficient so that I can afford the necessity. To be self sufficient I need good job. To be in school of Habitat studies one always expect a good job with high salary package after the completion of the course. I want prosperity of Habitat School so that it can contribute much to the society. I want my dean to be with us and give his continuous guidance.
Let’s pray for the success of this surgery and come up with good health. Let us make this surgery successful by contributing our good karma. Let my beloved dean of my beloved school get well soon.
Sir, we need your continuous guidance. Please get well soon.

How social sciences broadened my idea about the society
Being an engineering graduate and having a year experience in telecom field, usually one would have stick into the booming telecom field. But coming to Tata Institute of Social Sciences for Master in Habitat Policy and Practices at School of Habitat Studies really broaden my horizon behind engineering field. It gave me courage , zeal, strength and aspiration to work for the society. When I compare telecom field with that of Habitat Studies I find telecom field is very narrow which cannot contribute anything to the society rather then exploitation. Social sector is a galaxy where as telecom sector is a invisible portion of an area in the earth.I would like to share about the Habitat studies regarding its vastness and the opportunities to contribute to the development of a nation in an equitable manner where equality and equity are considered to be the utmost priority.
Urban centres in India are growing at a faster rate. Similarly urban poverty is also increasing at the similar rate. But very few have ever realised this trajectory. In order to address this trajectory one has to understand the minute details about the policy and should have practical knowledge. Habitat School is only school in India which provide the opportunity to become a habitat profession and understand the urban problem. To me this course has given me the opportunity to work with all the section of the people in the society. It gave me the opportunity to become expertise in Policy, environment, solid waste management, livelihood and the planning of cities. I feel myself very much lucky to have been selected in TISS for this prestigious , best and the unique program in India.
I would also like to share my experience about the faculties of the school. The school have its highly qualified faculty, with diverse disciplinary backgrounds. The faculty members of the School, possess expertise in a wide range of disciplines, including physics, engineering, social work, sociology, public policies, finance,
governance, regional development, political sciences. Their current research interests also cover a wide range of themes: water sector reform and regulation, sustainable development discourse, sustainable livelihoods, affordable housing, livelihoods options for urban poor, climate change policies, innovation policies, reform in urban finance sector, rural–urban water transfers, urban governance, urban and regional planning,
public–private and state–civil society partnerships in infrastructure, urban environmental policy.
Being a first batch of this School I feel previlaged to be part of this program. The final year semester is coming to end very soon and many company would be coming for recruiting these professional. I would be happy if I get selected in an organisation that work in infrastructure sector. My preference will be working in water sector though I am also open to housing and solid waste management sector. I am also open to any organisation who will provide me a handsome salary and a better profile. Only for certain extent I need handsome salary. Once i will have enough then salary will not be an issue for me. My preference will be working for the people for making the country a sustainably a developed country so that the future generation dont have to struggle as the present generation are struggling.
